2022 Wrapped and looking forward to 2023 with Powered By CAN!

The Go Play Sandwell team have been reflecting on 2022 and all the fun and play opportunities they have brought to the families of Sandwell. Let’s see what the Go Play team at Powered By CAN have been up to and what they are looking forward to this year at Go Play Sandwell!

Go Play Sandwell has had a great 2022 and we have manged to bring many play opportunities to the families and young people of Sandwell. From putting on regular after school sessions for young people to attend and feel part of a group to attending and creating large scale play events and family fun days for all to attend during half terms and summer. We would like to highlight some of our Spotlight sessions during the year and some of the projects we have enjoyed bringing to the young people the most.

Go Play after school/Pop-up Play sessions continue to give our young people a regular space to come and attend and feel a sense of community and safety while being able to explore their own types of play. Families are able to come together and play again with each other in a community setting, these sessions provide them with ideas and ways they can understand the importance of play for their own children. While providing after school sessions we also look forward to our half terms, this gives us a perfect chance to add longer sessions during the day and also add a theme (Some of them themes explore during our half terms include Halloween, Superhero’s, Easter and much more!) Our half term sessions bring even more fun for families and also gives them a chance to explore a new range of activities! Overall Go Play Pop-up delivery is an amazing addition to young people and family’s day to day life and we cannot wait to continue providing even more for our families to enjoy.

Go Play sessions are so much fun, thank you for letting me be able to play the way I want to play. I love the sessions and I have learned different things! I thought I would only like arts and crafts but since attending Go Play I have also started to like playing sports! - Quote from Go Play Participant

Moving forward from our Pop-Up Play delivery we have also helped support the S.H.A.P.E Festival which was a lovely event for local people to come a share their talents information and just have a fun community day and through S.H.A.P.E we have managed to inform many other families of the play provision they can access. During the summer we also joined together to celebrate the national play day and bring the years biggest day of play to our local families and community. It was great to see everyone join together and enjoy they day learning and playing with each other it was a great success and amazing to be a part of!

I have loved being part of the Go Play team during 2022 we have managed to bring a smile to many young peoples and families faces through the power of play and I look forward toto seeing what 2023 brings us for the world of Go Play! -Taylor Eden (Go Play Service Delivery Officer for West Bromwich)

My name is Annakay, and I am a service delivery worker for Go Play as part of my role I help to plan and provide/deliver free crafts, games and activities for children and families of Sandwell Play means to me encouraging and providing young people and their families to come together whether its indoors or outdoors to have fun, socialise with others and build relationships, by taking part in games, using their imagination, and exploring -Annakay (Go Play Service Delivery Worker for West Bromwich)

During last year we also had the opportunity to take on and expand our idea of collectives for our play champions, these sessions are targeted to our regular young people who attend the sessions, we are able to listen to their voices regarding what they would like to see more of on future Go Play delivery, the group is very important not just to the young people but also to us as we want to make sure the voice of the child is at the front of everything we aim to provide. The session have also been a chance for them to learn more about their environment and community and think towards social actions they could do to help them.

When looking forward into 2023 The Go Play Team at Powered By CAN are excited to see how much more play we can bring to Sandwell! Each year is a new opportunity to further spread our play message to the young people and families and we look forward to the challenge of bringing play to everyone!

To wrap up our 2022 rewind we have 2 members of the Go Play Team who want to introduce themselves and let you all know what play means to them
