Halloween/Spooky October Half Term 2022 with Go Play!

The Go play Team have been working hard to bring the families of Sandwell a fun and exciting Halloween half term. Let’s find out how our Go Play Team at Powered By CAN have found their spooky half-term engaging with the families of Sandwell.

During the October half term, we have been able to plan many play days for the young people and families of Sandwell. During the winter months we know it’s hard for families to find fun interactive things for the children to do, so that’s why on Go Play we aim to bring longer and more interactive sessions for families to enjoy. We wanted to bring not only our regular Pop-Up play sessions for the families but also give them the opportunity to take part in a spooky themed party during this time also, this allows the young people to further engage with friends, family, and possible new friends they can make on the sessions.

Our regular Pop-Up sessions gave the young people to engage in spooky themed activities such as spooky bowling, pin the spider on the web and bats and pumpkins (this was just like noughts and crosses), and they all loved the different twists on games they know. Some of the games the young people made themselves on the sessions like the ghost knockdown which they were able to make with just cups pens and paper. Not only were they able to engage in fun games and play but also create their own costumes such as masks and capes. In providing these activities we are offering our young people the opportunity to play and be involved in activities they might not be able to in other areas especially being able to enjoy them all for free close to their doorstep.

Thank you for all the fun you have brought me and my children this half term. We have all really enjoyed being able to play together and have a fun space to come to. Thank you to the Go play Staff they have been very helpful and have entertained and brought fun to our half term! - Quote from Go Play Family

Our spooky Halloween party bought that little extra for our families we wanted to bring our normal Pop-Up play delivery but with a party twist. The families who attended the party were able to engage in our regular delivery activities but also things such as glitter tattoos, fun inflatable games, party snacks and refreshments, spooky party games and much more. The families were able to enjoy some food a drink in safe and warm space while everyone could play and interact with all of the activities on offer. When doing the sessions, you begin to understand the small importance’s a warm room free play and activities can bring to a family’s day or week and through Go Play it has been a great chance to see and do this ourselves for those families that need it.

It has been a pleasure to see our regular smiley faces and new ones being able to attend our sessions, being a part of providing free play for families in Sandwell. Seeing new families and old families playing together and exploring different activities has been a great part of our spooky delivery! I can’t wait to see where we go next -Taylor Eden (Go Play Service Delivery Officer for West Bromwich)

Overall, we know our Go Play Team always look forward to bringing bigger and better play opportunities for our young people in the Sandwell area. We hope to continue providing everyone with the opportunity to experience play and allow them the time and safe space to explore many types of play and find what they enjoy!

Over the whole of the October half term, Powered By CAN’s Go Play team engaged with over 204 families of Sandwell!
