Go Play celebrates a Summer of Fun across Sandwell
National Playday 2026 was a huge success for Sandwell’s children and families, as more than 4,000 people came together to celebrate the power of play at Sandwell Valley Park.
On 1 August, Sandwell MBC Play Service Go Play worked in partnership with the Sandwell MBC Events Team to deliver a fantastic free Family Summer Festival of Play at Sandwell Valley Park. The event marked National Playday and brought together children, young people and families from across the borough for a day packed with fun, laughter and opportunities to play.
The festival was one of our biggest events to date, with over 4,000 children and family members joining us throughout the day. From exciting activities and games to creative play experiences, the event showcased the importance of play in helping children develop, socialise, learn new skills and create lasting memories.
The summer fun did not stop there. Throughout the school holidays, the Go Play Partnership delivered more than 70 free play sessions across all six Sandwell towns, ensuring that thousands of children had access to safe, engaging and inclusive play opportunities close to home.
These free sessions provided families with valuable opportunities to come together, make friends, stay active and enjoy the benefits of outdoor play during the summer break. The incredible attendance and positive feedback received throughout the programme demonstrate just how important accessible play opportunities are for local communities.
We would like to thank all the families, partners and staff who helped make this summer such a tremendous success. Your support and enthusiasm helped create unforgettable experiences for thousands of children across Sandwell.
But the fun is far from over.
